The Carbon Dioxide Tension of Cerebrospinal Fluid
نویسندگان
چکیده
The COz tension is a necessary factor in determining the acidbase equilibrium of the blood. It has been determined for blood both directly, and indirectly through CO2 of the alveolar air. The blood, because of oxidation, reduction, forced breathing, and stasis through constriction of the veins, undergoes variations in the COz tension. Does the cerebrospinal fluid which exists in a more isolated system follow the same changes as the blood? It too is a system of which the pH is determined by the ratio of

Studies of the Cerebral Circulation and Metabolism in Congestive Heart Failure
young individuals ws-as demonstrated to be secondary to the presence of arteriosclerosis and not to cardiac decompensation as had previously been concluded. It was also found that in the series studied the increased venous and cerebrospinal fluid pressures were not of sufficient magnitude to affect the cerebral circulation. The factor of a decreased arterial carbon dioxide tension as a cause fo...
متن کاملCerebral venous blood gas tensions in elevated intracranial pressure.
Cerebral venous blood gas tensions were correlated with elevated intracranial pressure in spontaneously breathing dogs lightly anesthetized with nitrous oxide/halothane. Intracranial pressure was elevated by infusion of artificial cerebrospinal fluid into a lateral ventricle. Respiration and blood pressure were monitored. The results of these experiments indicate that cerebral venous carbon dio...
متن کاملEffects of intracisternal dexmedetomidine on cerebral neuronal cells in rat: a preliminary study.
AIM The aim was to investigate whether dexmedetomidine had a toxic effect on cerebral neurons when it was administered centrally into the cerebrospinal fluid by the intracisternal route. MATERIAL AND METHODS Eighteen rats were anesthetized and the right femoral artery was cannulated. Mean arterial pressures, heart rates, arterial carbon dioxide tension, arterial oxygen ten...
متن کاملSympathetic control of cerebral blood flow in dogs.
The effect of sympathetic stimulation on cerebral blood flow was investigated in dogs anesthetized with chloralose. A preparation has been developed for the moment-to-moment measurement of cerebral venous outflow with an electromagnetic flow transducer. The brain's arterial supply was left undisturbed. The sympathetic innervation of the cerebral vessels was stimulated at the stellate ganglion (...
متن کاملEffects of general anaesthesia on size of cerebrospinal fluid spaces during and after pneumoencephalography.
The mode of anaesthesia used during pneumoencephalography has a significant effect on the size of the cerebral ventricles 24 hours after the procedure. Post-encephalographic ventricular enlargement is less marked in patients examined under nitrous oxide anaesthesia. This appears to be related to passage of the gas into the ventricles during the encephalogram, and subsequent diffusion outwards. ...
